"I had the absolute pleasure of celebrating my daughter’s 21st birthday with a private dining experience curated by Chef Raj and the Scratch Cook Social team, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we began, it was clear that Raj’s talent and passion for Indian cuisine would elevate the evening. He crafted a bespoke small plate experience that was a true culinary journey—each dish beautifully balanced in flavour, texture, and presentation.

Every plate felt personal, with a thoughtful mix of traditional and modern touches. The spices were perfectly harmonised, and each bite offered a new layer of depth. What stood out the most was Raj’s attention to detail and his ability to tailor the menu to our preferences while still surprising us with unique twists on classic dishes.

"From the fluffy and flavoursome Dokhla savoury cake for an appetiser and the hot and hearty Shorba roasted red pepper soup starter to Raj’s signature smooth and silky Khichdi masala haddock served on a bed of creamy risotto and the Pasanda succulent confit lamb perfectly complemented with an almond sauce and picked fennel. Raj’s love for spices ran throughout the courses and this was highlighted by the Mithai cardamom and chilli chocolate torte pudding, which he obviously likes so much that he saved a slice for himself to eat while taking time to chat to his guests."

"The ethos behind Scratch Cook Social is a focus on whole ingredients, and Raj strives to take the dishes of his childhood and give them a more modern twist. This was especially present in course 3 - a desi style “risotto”, based on the breakfast khichdi that him and his wife would eat growing up. The menu was a true delight; Raj’s passion for cooking, intertwined with his clever use of spices, infused each course with magic.The dish I was most looking forward to, was the Lamb Pasanda and it didn’t disappoint. The different textures on the plate were a joy; the lamb was both crisp and tender, with the pickled fennel perfectly cutting through the richness and the pasanda sauce tying it all together. It was definitely my favourite course of night. But, in honesty, we were blown away by each and every one..."

A catered BBQ with difference, beautifully spiced salmon and chicken on the BBQ freshley cooked and served, we felt like we were on holiday! Raj was well prepared, has a host of different BBQs for different flavours, and you can tell he’s passionate about it! The side dishes served were unique and something that definitely gave the palate a pleasant surprise! Our team loved it! Just not sure how we will beat it next year! Will probably do the same!! Just want to say a huge thank you to @scratchcooksocial for the amazing food and serving everything with so much passion and smiles!"

"There’s a new chef in town and he’s pretty blimin good. I’d seen Raj AKA @scratchcooksocial hold a few pop-ups at @desa_cafe in Leamington and was lucky enough to be invited as his guest to the latest: ‘Lucky 7’ - a seven-course extravaganza of his own Indian fine dining creations. He uses spice, barbecue, layers of flavour, textures and all the hallmarks of great, refined, precise fine dining food. Some great creations in there, from the open-fired scallops sat on a thick daal to the puri mouth bomb - a play on pani puri and packed with flavour- and a dessert of shrikhand infused with cardamom and Landon and topped with grilled pineapple was a delight.

I’ve always been a champion of independents and people chasing their culinary dreams but I’m not anti chain. However, my gripe with them is the lack of care, pride and passion from their kitchens. This is the polar opposite - Raj’s joy from cooking for others, exacting standards and passion is clear to see. The support he had from his family who served us each and every course with care is clear to see. The menus were beautiful, the room dressed nicely, the cocktails carefully created. Raj will be the first to say he’s constantly honing his skills - but for someone who has jumped out of a corporate career into the kitchen, he’s doing a pretty marvellous job, not just with the food but in the way he created an experience to remember. Look forward to seeing where he takes this next."
